সাংবাদিকদের বিভিন্ন সংগঠনে নেতৃত্ব দিয়ে আসছেন প্রায় ৪০ বছর ধরে। অর্থাৎ সাংবাদিকতা শুরুর এক বছরের মাথায় ১৯৮৫ সালে তিনি হবিগঞ্জে সাংবাদিকদের স্বনামধন্য সংগঠন সাপ্তাহিক পত্রিকা সাংবাদিক ইউনিয়ন (সাসাই) হবিগঞ্জ জেলা শাখার সাধারণ সম্পাদক হিসেবে মনোনীত হন। তখন হবিগঞ্জে কোন দৈনিক পত্রিকা ছিল না। তিনি সেই সময়ে হবিগঞ্জ শহর থেকে নিয়মিত প্রকাশিত জেলার প্রথম পত্রিকা, সাপ্তাহিক স্বাধিকার এর স্টাফ রিপোর্টার ছিলেন। এরপর থেকে তার লেখাপড়ার পাশাপাশি চলে সাংবাদিকতার দায়িত্ব পালন। হবিগঞ্জের স্বনামধন্য শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান বৃন্দাবন সরকারি কলেজে অধ্যয়নকালে তিনি যুক্ত হন ছাত্র রাজনীতিতে। অবশ্য রাজনীতিতে তিনি খুব একটা সক্রিয় ছিলেন না।
সাংবাদিকতার দায়িত্ব পালনের বিভিন্ন সময়ে তিনি ঢাকা থেকে প্রকাশিত প্রথমে সাপ্তাহিক ও পরে দৈনিক নব অভিযান পত্রিকার হবিগঞ্জ জেলা প্রতিনিধি ছিলেন। ১৯৯১ সালে হবিগঞ্জ শহর থেকে প্রকাশিত সাপ্তাহিক খোয়াই পত্রিকার বার্তা সম্পাদক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব গ্রহণ করেন। পত্রিকার জন্মলগ্ন থেকে তিনি এর হাল ধরেন। পত্রিকাটির তখনকার নির্বাহী সম্পাদক রাহাত চৌধুরী ও বার্তা সম্পাদক হারুনুর রশিদ চৌধুরীর অক্লান্ত পরিশ্রম ও প্রচেষ্টায় পত্রিকাটি হবিগঞ্জে পাঠকপ্রিয়তায় শীর্ষস্থান লাভ করেছিল। ২০০১ সালের দিকে হবিগঞ্জ শহর থেকে প্রকাশিত দৈনিক প্রতিদিনের বাণীর সম্পাদক চিন্ময় আচার্যী চাকুরি ছেড়ে দিলে পত্রিকাটির প্রকাশক মোহাম্মদ শাবান মিয়ার অনুরোধে হারুনুর রশিদ চৌধুরী এর যুগ্ম সম্পাদক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব গ্রহণ করেন। প্রায় ৭ বছর তিনি সাপ্তাহিক খোয়াইর পাশাপাশি প্রতিদিনের বাণীর যুগ্ম সম্পাদক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। এরপর সম্ভবত ২০০৮ সালে পাঠক চাহিদার কথা বিবেচনায় হারুনুর রশিদ চৌধুরীর অনুরোধে খোয়াই সম্পাদক আলহাজ্ব শামীম আহছান পত্রিকাটিকে দৈনিকে উন্নীত করেন। শুরু হয় দৈনিক খোয়াইর অগ্রযাত্রা। হারুনুর রশিদ চৌধুরী তখন প্রতিদিনের বাণীর দায়িত্ব ছেড়ে দৈনিক খোয়াইয়ে পুরোপুরি মনোনিবেশ করেন। এক পর্যায়ে পত্রিকাটি হবিগঞ্জে প্রচার সংখ্যায় শীর্ষস্থান লাভ করে। হারুনুর রশিদ চৌধুরী প্রায় ২৮ বছর খোয়াইয়ে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। এরপর কোন এক পরিস্থিতিতে তিনি সহকর্মীদের অনুরোধে নতুন দৈনিক পত্রিকা প্রকাশের উদ্যোগ নেন এবং দৈনিক খোয়াইর দায়িত্ব থেকে বিদায় নেন।
হারুনুর রশিদ চৌধুরী ও তার সহকর্মীরা একত্রিত হয়ে গড়ে তুলেন একটি মিডিয়া হাউস। এর মাধ্যমে প্রকাশ করা হয় ‘দৈনিক হবিগঞ্জের মুখ’। সকল সাংবাদিকদের ঐকান্তিক চেষ্টায় অতি দ্রুত সময়ের মধ্যে দৈনিক হবিগঞ্জের মুখ পাঠক মহলে ব্যাপক সমাদৃত হয়। ব্যবসাসফল হয়ে উঠে পত্রিকাটি। ইন্টারনেটের বদৌলতে দৈনিক হবিগঞ্জের মুখ এখন গোটা হবিগঞ্জ জেলাসহ সারা বিশ্বে হবিগঞ্জের মানুষজনের কাছে অত্যন্ত প্রিয় পত্রিকা হিসেবে পরিচিতি লাভ করেছে। হারুনুর রশিদ চৌধুরী এই পত্রিকার সম্পাদক ও প্রকাশক।
সাংবাদিকতা জীবনে হারুনুর রশিদ চৌধুরী বিভিন্ন সময়ে হবিগঞ্জ প্রেসক্লাবে নেতৃত্ব দেন। তিনি প্রেসক্লাবের বিভিন্ন সম্পাদকীয় পদে দায়িত্ব পালনের পর ১৯৯৯ সালে ভারপ্রাপ্ত সাধারণ সম্পাদকের দায়িত্ব লাভ করেন। প্রায় ৪ মাস তিনি এ দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। এরপর ২০০৬ সালে তিনি হবিগঞ্জ প্রেসক্লাবের দুই বছর মেয়াদী কমিটির সাধারণ সম্পাদক নির্বাচিত হন। ২০১২ সালে এবং ২০১৯ সালে তিনি দুই বার হবিগঞ্জ প্রেসক্লাবের সভাপতির দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। সভাপতির দায়িত্ব পালনকালে তিনি প্রেসক্লাবের উন্নয়নে বলিষ্ট ভূমিকা রাখেন। ২০১২ সালে তার দায়িত্ব পালনকালীন সময়ে ‘হবিগঞ্জ প্রেসক্লাব কল্যাণ তহবিল’ গঠন করা হয়। এই তহবিল এখন অত্যন্ত সমৃদ্ধ।
হারুনুর রশিদ চৌধুরী হবিগঞ্জ টিভি জার্নালিস্ট এসোসিয়েশনের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা সভাপতি। ২০০৯ সালে হবিগঞ্জে কর্মরত টেলিভিশন সাংবাদিকদের উদ্যোগে এই সংগঠনটি প্রতিষ্ঠা করা হয়। হারুনুর রশিদ চৌধুরী প্রায় ৪ বছর এই সংগঠনটিতে সভাপতির দায়িত্ব পালন করেন।

মানবসেবায় ভূমিকা রাখার অংশ হিসেবে হবিগঞ্জ শহরের পুরাতন হাসপাতাল সড়কস্থ সবুজবাগে পারিবারিকভাবে গড়ে তোলা হয় মডার্ণ হাসপাতাল এন্ড ফেয়ার ডায়াগনস্টিক সেন্টার। হারুনুর রশিদ চৌধুরী এই হাসপাতালের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবে রোগীদেরকে সেবা প্রদানে বলিষ্ট ভূমিকা পালন করছেন। তাদের পারিবারিক এই প্রাইভেট হাসপাতালে হবিগঞ্জের স্বনামধন্য ডাক্তাররা নিয়মিত চিকিৎসা সেবা দিচ্ছেন। পাশাপাশি রাজধানী ঢাকা থেকে খ্যাতনামা চিকিৎসকগণ সপ্তাহে একবার এসে রোগীদের চিকিৎসা সেবা দেন।

সারা বিশ্বে মানবসেবায় অনন্য ভূমিকা রাখছে রোটারী ক্লাব। হবিগঞ্জে আন্তর্জাতিক সেবামূলক এই সংগঠনের তিনটি শাখা রয়েছে। এর মধ্যে রোটারী ক্লাব অব হবিগঞ্জ সেন্ট্রাল এর চার্টার সেক্রেটারী হারুনুর রশিদ চৌধুরী। তিনি ২০১৮-১৯ মেয়াদে রোটারী ক্লাব অব হবিগঞ্জ সেন্ট্রাল এর প্রেসিডেন্ট ছিলেন। ২০২২-২৩ মেয়াদে তিনি রোটারী ডিস্ট্রিক্টের এসিস্ট্যান্ট গভর্ণর হিসেবে দায়িত্ব লাভ করেন। তাঁর স্ত্রী নার্গিস আক্তারও ব্যবসার সাথে সম্পৃক্ত। পাশাপাশি তিনি নারীদের আন্তর্জাতিক সেবামূলক সংগঠন ইনার হুইল ক্লাব অব হবিগঞ্জ এর একজন সক্রিয় সদস্য।

Harunur Rashid Chowdhury, Editor and Publisher of Dainik Habiganjer Mukh, is a renowned journalist in Habiganj district. Not only a journalist, he is also playing a leading role in social service, development of literary culture, establishment of values and human rights. He is involved in service-oriented business. He has been leading various organizations of journalists for almost 40 years. That is, a year after starting journalism, in 1985, he was nominated as the general secretary of the Habiganj district branch of the renowned organization of journalists, Saptahik Patrika Sangbadik Union (Sasai). Around 2001, when Chinmoy Acharya, the Editor of the daily Pratidiner Bani published from Habiganj city, resigned, Harunur Rashid Chowdhury took over as the Joint Editor at the request of the newspaper’s publisher Mohammad Shaban Mia. For about 7 years, he served as the Joint Editor of Pratidin Bani along with the weekly Khowai. Then, probably in 2008, considering the reader demand, Khowai Editor Alhaj Shamim Ahsan upgraded the newspaper to a daily at the request of Harunur Rashid Chowdhury. The progress of Daily Khowai began. Harunur Rashid Chowdhury then left the charge of Pratidiner Bani and focused entirely on Daily Khowai. After serving in various secretarial positions of the Press Club, he was appointed as the Acting General Secretary in 1999. He served in this position for about 4 months. Then in 2006, he was elected as the General Secretary of the two-year committee of the Habiganj Press Club. In 2012 and 2019, he served as the President of the Habiganj Press Club twice.
